Vision Health Information

Comprehensive eye examinations provide early detection of eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration and retinal detachment. Exams can also detect serious health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, neurological disorders and brain tumors. The Fund encourages all members to receive comprehensive eye exams, even if they are not experiencing vision problems. You may also wish to coordinate receiving annual eye examinations with your health insurance plan, if available.

Eyewear can not only correct vision so you can see well now, but can also protect long-term eye health so that you can see well in the future. Eyewear can protect eyes from dangerous UV radiation, which has been associated with cataract and macular degeneration, two leading causes of preventable blindness. Impact resistant eyewear can protect against serous eye injury. Some lens treatments, such as anti-reflective coating and photochromics, can minimize glare and reflections. Please discuss all lens options with your vision health provider to ensure you protect your eye health.
