Dependent Eligibility

Upon receipt of a completed Enrollment Form with required documentation, the Fund will provide benefits to:

  • Your spouse if you are legally married under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Your unmarried natural children, legally adopted children, children for whom you have current legal custody, and your residential stepchildren (your spouse’s child(ren) whose primary residence is your home). Children who meet this definition are eligible for benefits through the last day of the month during which they turn 19, or through the last day of the month in which they turn 26 if enrolled as a full-time student.

The Fund requires that you submit student verification from the Registrar’s Office of your child’s school if your child is enrolled as a full-time student. This student proof must be submitted directly to the Fund. Failure to submit the required student verification as required will result in the denial of your dependent’s claims. Verification forms are available from the Fund Office or may be downloaded here.

Children who are considered developmentally disabled as defined by the MPE Fund and qualify as a disabled person under the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) may be eligible for benefits regardless of age. You must submit acceptable verification forms and a copy of the current Aware Letter.

The Fund is not subject to MA Health Care Reform or the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

If you have a question about the eligibility of any of your dependents, please call the Fund Office at (800) 325-5214. All written communication should contain your member identification number.

You, your spouse or your dependent children must notify the Fund in the event of a divorce, remarriage or other change in dependent status. If your stepchild no longer lives in your home, you must notify the Fund.
